Medical informatics and the role of information technology in medicine

Medical informatics can be defined as the applied field of information and communication technology in medicine and refers to the production and services of information technology in the field of health and treatment services of the medical informatics industry. In order to develop this industry inside the country, we need planning based on the opportunities and threats on the way and our strengths and weaknesses.

Informatics industry in general has features that have encouraged the countries of the world to invest in this sector. The medical informatics industry includes three parts of software and hardware and services in the medical field. Meanwhile, the software part has a special place for investment. Also, areas of medical informatics, such as the application of artificial intelligence in medicine, telemedicine services, due to being in the research stage, will be a good field for planning and investing in product offerings in that sector.

Considering the role of the governments in the direction of the development of the two applied and production sectors in the field of informatics, they are obliged to create the following items. Therefore, a comprehensive understanding of the infrastructure of this sector is vitally necessary at the beginning of planning.

These infrastructures are  :

  • Security infrastructure
  • Business infrastructure
  • Rights infrastructure
  • Social and cultural infrastructure
  • Standardization infrastructure
  • Technical infrastructure

Medical equipment, along with communication and information tools, will provide the technical infrastructure of medical informatics. The emergence of electronic tools with the ability to record the information of individuals from birth to death will provide a platform for the use of powerful processing and intelligent tools so that everyday tasks of an uncreative nature are entrusted to these tools.

- Hospital management information systems :

These systems are a type of management information systems  (MIS)   .

Clinical information systems and medical care  :

These systems have databases that contain various types of patient information in a multimedia form, including: vital parameters of persons, medical images, etc., which thereby improve the ability of doctors to process and treat with powerful tools.

 Health information systems :

A set of interconnected components used to collect and analyze data and compile information.

 Virtual reality :

This discussion includes all the material concepts around us and has the ability to simulate a large part of the interactions of the material world. Virtual reality in medicine also has wide applications, for example, simulating the anatomy and physiology of the human body as a laboratory sample will provide the ability to perform any medical tests and research.

Digital pharmacies are
one of the issues that can lead to problems in some cases, such as finding the right pharmacy, increasing urban traffic, searching for a specific or rare drug, misusing insurance services, wasting time and paying cash. In this article, a system based on information technology for the mechanized preparation of medicine is presented. The doctor sends the prescription to the system, and the system sends the prescription to the nearest pharmacy to the patient's place, and then the pharmacy prepares the prescription and sends it to the patient's place of residence.
